Our Story
The family business.
Jim McKee, DVM
Yes, that’s right. There is a DVM behind my name – Doctor of Veterinary Medicine — and I provide insurance protection and services. Let me explain.
My great grandfather had an insurance agency in Nashville, which my grandfather joined, and my father eventually took over and renamed it McKee, Geny, and Thornton. One of my sons also has an agency in Dallas, TX. So, insurance is in my blood. But horses are in my heart.
After college, I earned my DVM from the University of Tennessee Knoxville. I spent the next 30 years in equine practice. For 25 of those years, we in Lexington, KY, where I had a private practice working on Thoroughbred breeding farms and working at the Thoroughbred auctions at Keeneland, Fasig Tipton and Saratoga.
Being native Nashvillians, we returned home to be grandparents, and I practiced equine medicine and surgery with Nolensville Veterinary Hospital for 2-3 years before working with FarmVet as their staff veterinarian.
In 2016, the pull of the family business drew me into the world of insurance.
I am married with three grown children and eight grandchildren. I’ve been around the block a time or two and understand the unforeseen problems life can throw at people. I’m thrilled to be able to bring some peace of mind to life through a personalized and comprehensive insurance plan. I’m also thrilled that I didn’t really give up horses. I am able to combine my equine experience to offer clients expert advice on equine and farm insurance.
My insurance agency in Middle Tennessee allows me to work with several agencies to provide the best coverage possible for my clients. I am affiliated with the Allee Insurance Agency as well as several other agencies. No matter what your insurance need, I am confident that I can help you find the best protection plan to meet your needs and to best maximize the use of your insurance dollar.
I’d like to think we do a better job with relationships. We stay in touch and have annual evaluations to be sure we’re covering all our clients' needs as their lives change.
